For the interlude (before the chorus) I think Dm7 sounds good, but a straight Dm is fine too. Also, a lot of the G and A chords can be played as Gadd9 and Aadd9 chords, to vary the sound a little. For example, try playing x0242x instead of x0222x once in a while. (On the original, the piano plays mostly Aadd9 and Gadd9, instead of plain A and G).
