RASPBERRY BERET
Written by Prince
As performed by Hindu Love Gods
Transcribed by Dan Amrich (DanAmrich@aol.com)
For this version, I've used the Hindu Love Gods recording from their self-titled
album (Giant, 1990). Hindu Love Gods was a side project of Warren Zevon with Bill
Berry, Mike Mills and Peter Buck from REM. They approach it from a blues/garage
rock context, so it's all power chords. It's also a lot of fun to play this way.
Enjoy.

I think I looooooooove her
And there you have it. Use the intro riff for the part at the
end of the chorus. Hindu Love Gods delete the bridge altogether,
so if you have the original Prince version, you can figure it
out.
LYRICS (there are slight, one-word variations between the
original Prince phrasing and these):
V1
I was workin' part-time in the five and dime
My boss was Mr. McGhee
He told me several times that he didn't like my kind
'Cause I was a bit too leisurely
I was always busy doin' somethin' close to nothin'
But different from the time before
That's when I saw her, ooh, I saw her
She walked in through the out door, out door
REFRAIN
She wore a raspberry beret
The kind you find in a second hand store
Raspberry beret
And when it was warm, she didn't wear much more
Raspberry beret
I think I love her
V2
Now, built the way she was, she had the nerve to ask me
If I meant to do her any harm
So I put her on the back of my bike and we went ridin'
Down by old man Johnson's farm
Now, rainy days never turned me on
But somethin' about the way the clouds and her mixed
She wasn't too bright but when she kissed me
I knew she knew how to give a kiss
REFRAIN x2 and fade
