I stumbled across this amazing cover on youtube, and instinctively, I didn't
pay any attention to Natasha Bedingfield in the front - since that amazing
guitarist in the back totally outshined her.
The man with three hands, ladies and gentlemen; his name is Nick Lashley !

Rhythm and percussion is totally vital in this genre, but since there aren't
any stated symbols in tabs to describe these things, I just made some up here:
"O" on all 6 six strings = slap and mute the strings with your right hand palm
"x" = pick or strum the strings muted - as usual
"." (e.g. "4.") = staccato / a note is cut off to only half of its length
"KNOCK" on the strings = knock on the guitar body right above the strings.

In order not to make a lot of unwanted noise, focus a lot on your dampening.
You NEVER EVER want anything to ring unless you decided to let it ring!
The strumming and picking is everything when playing in this percussive acoustic
style. The right hand is used in tons of ways here.
The intro starts out fairly silent in the first half and builds up in the second
half. Here he moves from fingerpicking to a powerful strum, which you can only
get by strumming with your fingernails. This guitar piece is brilliant for
practising dynamics and volumes with these different picking/strumming styles.

and only has a rhythmic function.

Palm mute the high notes slightly, so they won't drown the bass notes.
