This is the first tab I've submitted to U-G, though I've been tabbing
and playing for years. This is a beautiful song from an amazing writer.

This is the general feel of each section. I'm not going to tab
out every detail because I feel that each performance is unique
to itself. Usually the version I've tabbed out is the first way
that section is played. Contact me through my profile on U-G for
questions.  Have fun!

This song is in the key of A major (F#, C#, G#). I placed the meter
as 3/4 with a swung eighth feel, so read the tab likewise. The
verse is basically outlining the root and third of each respective
scale degree in A Maj while letting the open A ring out. The verse
and chorus share the general pulse listed above the first measure.

VERSE:

Q E E Q Continue... E||----------------|----------------|----------------|----------------|B||----------------|----------------|----------------|----------------|G||--6-------6-----|--7-------7-----|--6-------6-----|--6-------6-----|D||--7-------7-----|--9-------9-----|--7-------7-----|--7-------7-----|A||-------0-----0--|-------0-----0--|-------0-----0--|-------0-----0--|E||----------------|----------------|----------------|----------------|
Q E Q|----------------|------------------|----------------|------------------|||----------------|------------------|----------------|------------------|||-13-------13----|-14-------14---13-|-11-------11----|-11-------11------|||-14-------14----|-16-------16---14-|-12-------12----|-12-------12------|||-------0------0-|-------0----------|-------0------0-|--0-----------0---|||----------------|------------------|----------------|------------------||
The chorus is basically taken from two chords: B minor and E. CHORUS:
Q E E Q Continue...||----------------|----------------|----------------|-----------------||||--7-------7-----|--7-------7-----|--9-------9-----|--9-------10-----||||----------------|----------------|----------------|-----------------||||----------------|----------------|----------------|-----------------||||----------------|----------------|--7----7-----7--|--7----7------7--||||--7----7-----7--|--7----7-----7--|----------------|-----------------||
The structure of the first part of the song: Verse X2 (as intro) Verse X2 Chorus X4 Verse X2 (without vocals) Verse X2 Chorus X4 Chorus X4 After the break the rest of the song is based on the same chord progression as the chorus (B min and E). The lyrics as written on the CD insert: THE LONG WALK HOME RIDDLED WITH REGRET UNCOMMONLY COMFORTABLE... BUT STILL I BELIEVE THAT IN TIME I THINK I'LL SEE JUST WHAT'S BEEN WEIGHING DOWN ON ME AN UNEARTHLY VOID COLLAPSED EXPOSING WHAT WAS TRAPPED TO RELEASE THIS SERENDIPITOUS DESIGN THE SMELL OF SMOKE THE EVENING SKY WAS BRUISED BELATED CONVERSATIONS SATURATE ANTICIPATION FOR THE ANSWERS THAT SIMPLY WON'T COME. BUT NOT I. I WON'T ASK. FORGET MY PLACE AMONGST THE GRASS. THE LEAVES, AND THE TREES. REMEMBER ME AND IN MY NAIVETY IT MIGHT BE SEEN THE PAIL HAS LEAKS AND EVEN IF YOU PUT ALL YOUR WATER INTO IT YOU'LL END UP WITH NOTHING LEFT TO DRINK THE WELL HAS GONE DRY, AND I WITH IT. SOMEDAY SHE'LL BE GONE. WE'LL STILL HAVE HER SONG TO SING SING SOFTLY, BRING ME TO THE LAKE. That's all for now! I hope you all enjoy playing this song / singing along! Share the beauty of The Dear Hunter with everyone you can. Thanks.
